A year ago this week, I set up a camera and walked out under Mount Si and hit record. I didn't have much of a plan past that first afternoon. I had a feeling — that if you put musicians under a beautiful mountain and let them play, something would come through.
Twenty sessions later, I'm more sure of that than I've ever been.
I'm writing this fresh off a weekend at the Imagine Music & Arts Festival out on Orcas Island. Three days of people making things with their hands and their bodies, right in front of each other — drums, dance, light, fire. We came home tired in the best way and completely lit up, because it's the same thing Si Sessions has been chasing all along: the irreplaceable weight of humans making art together, on an island or on a mountain.
That's the whole bet. As the world fills up with generated everything, the real thing gets rarer — and rarer means more valuable. Year one was about proving to myself it could exist. Year two is about pouring gas on it.
Thank you for being here for the first lap. Let's go again.
— Kyle
